Music and
Lyrics – Stephen Sondheim
Book – Hugh Wheeler

A sweeping tale of romance, vengeance and murder, Sweeney Todd is an extraordinary musical based on the 19th century legend of an English barber driven insane by society’s blindness to justice.  Escaping from unjust imprisonment, Sweeney returns home to seek revenge against Judge Turpin, who now plans to marry Sweeney’s daughter.  After missing his chance to kill the Judge, Sweeney’s rage is directed at his customers while the enterprising accomplice, Mrs. Lovett, neatly disposes of the bodies by baking them into her meat pies.  Winner of 8 Tony Awards including Best Musical, Sweeney Todd is a grand musical of comedy and thrills with a riveting and melodic score by Stephen Sondheim, one of musical theatre’s most brilliant composer/lyricists.
