MMT's 2011-2012 Season
MMT is thrilled to announce three amazing productions for our upcoming season:
"BAT BOY: THE MUSICAL"
October 28 - November 13, 2011
Story and Book by Keythe Farley and Brian Flemming Music and Lyrics by Laurence O’Keefe
Directed by Steven Meerdink Musical Direction by Kevin Hansen
MMT’s 2004 area premiere of Bat Boy: The Musical was an instant hit (and named Best Musical of the Year by the Star Tribune). Returning to the Twin Cities for the first time, this musical horror spoof - based on a story in The Weekly World News about a half boy/half bat creature - has had audiences rolling in the aisles since its critically-acclaimed Off-Broadway premiere. Rescued from a cave and taken in by the empathetic wife of the local veterinarian, “Edgar” quickly learns to speak and act in civilized ways – even falling in love with his mentor’s daughter. Danger looms, however, as we learn a deep, dark secret. This off-kilter satire offers clever musical numbers, a hilarious plot, surprising twists, and a lesson in the agony of being different and accepting your inner beast!
"THE STORY OF MY LIFE"
Area Premiere March 9 - 25, 2012
Book by Brian Hill Music and Lyrics by Neil Bartram
Directed by Christine Karki Musical Direction by Lori Maxwell
MMT cofounders Steven Meerdink and Kevin Hansen reunite on stage for the first time in six years to tell the touching and often humorous story of two childhood friends and how their relationship profoundly defined their lives. Thomas Weaver is a best-selling, award-winning author. Alvin Kelby was his best friend for thirty years. But time can test the bonds of friendship, and when it does, Thomas calls on the only resource he has - his stories of Alvin - to learn where things went wrong. A richly melodic musical, The Story of My Life is a soaring tribute to the power of friendship and the people who change our lives forever.
(This activity is made possible, in part, by funds provided by the Metropolitan Regional Arts Council from an appropriation by the Minnesota Legislature.)
"GILLIGAN'S ISLAND: THE MUSICAL"
Area Premiere June 8 - 24, 2012
